Knew a few friend's that retired from here,
Transit Groupie (Ancien employé) –  Vancouver, BC14 septembre 2019
Good retirement package too. After 30 year's service I should hope so. I still know a few driver's but don't hang with them aniymore since they closed their Transit Club which was a Bar on 41st and Oak.

Transit Bus Driver
Bus Driver (Employé actuel) –  Nanaimo, BC2 septembre 2019
This was my dream job. Unfortunately working on call casual made it impossible to continue as I was unable to afford to live. I had some great co-workers and dispatch was very good.

Horrible pay
Transit Operator (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC24 août 2019
Pay is not fair for the amount of responsibility you have as a driver. 12 hour days and 8 hours of pay, at a wage less than a pizza delivery person. 4 years to get to a top rate that is $4-$6 less than where it should be now.
Points positifs
Job security
Points négatifs
Non livable wage

Good pay and benefits job security
Transit operator (Ancien employé) –  Victoria, BC17 juillet 2019
Bus drivers are vulnerable, at risk. But able to help people. I loked it. Public service job so very politically correct.
Generally good staff. Labor relations was a dog fight when I was there. Managers fought dirty. In public. Disgracefully. No class. Supportive culture by first line supervisors. They were hood to me. It is a burn out job.
So early retirement benefit package
Points positifs
Chooae days off and hours of work by seniority
Points négatifs

Zero work life balance
Transit Operator (Ancien employé) –  Victoria, BC4 juin 2019
In 18 years the work should have improved with seniority, but that wasn't the case. Split shifts, awful shifts, a union that doesn't care and ineffective management. If you don't mind being a mindless drone, this is the place for you
Points positifs
Adequate wages
Points négatifs
Terrible shifts, uncaring union, stinky passengers

Fun but slow place to work
Budget Analyst (Contract) (Ancien employé) –  Victoria, BC28 février 2019
I was a contractor but was given good responsibilities. The company is full of Canadians and they are not open to other cultures coming in. If someone wants a steady A-B-C type of work, then this is good.

Great team of enthusiastic people
Manager, Infrastructure Planning & Projects (Ancien employé) –  Victoria, BC26 février 2019
BC Transit has a young team of hardworking Senior Executives who are passionate about Public Transportation, and the promotion of new technologies to enhance the experience of the ridership. Exposure to this environment taught me a great deal about Transit that I was previously unaware of.
Points positifs
Free bus passes, free gym

great place to work
Conventional Bus Operator/ Handy Dart Driver (Ancien employé) –  Abbotsford, BC9 septembre 2018
Co workers are helpful and friendly... as well as management. They always have an open door policy. Management has always listened to any concerns and if there is a problem at home or at work they are there to help.
Points positifs
close to home
Points négatifs
splits

Great Place to work!
Transit Operator (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC10 août 2018
If you are looking for a life long career, love driving, don't get stressed out easy, and don't mind shift work, then this place is for you. Management at BCT Victoria are truly great people. The new CEO is young, modern, and such an out going genuine person. Everyone is there to help you, from other operators, supervisors, controllers, dispatchers, trainers, and managers. The only thing that is a bit on the down side, is the wage compared to other cities, and the 5 years till top rate. So if you want a job that you are one big family, love driving, and there is never a closed door, then apply here!
Points positifs
Great management, amazing co-workers, stable career
Points négatifs
wage and the 5 years till top rate.

Needs an up lift in Managers
Anonymous (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC8 juillet 2018
I find that the work environment is ok if you are an older employee. But it is hard to fit in otherwise. The employees are given a performance review annually or every six months. It is no different then getting your report card in which makes you feel like a child. I think they can come up with a different and more productive ways to reviews and effectively criticize employees. Like training there managers in effective managing. Some managers are very old school and do not look at the process but point fingers at employees regarding processes and performance instead. So managers do not even care to effectively eveluate there employees. These processed are not changing anything but stressing there employees out and not effective criticizing them. Executives do not have to go through this process either. Employee should be able to give constructive performance reviews to Executives IMO.
I do have to say that the Stay On Board is a positive program that they have started.
Points positifs
Close to amenities, free bus passes, Stay on Board
Points négatifs
no parking, work environment, performance reviews, no relationship with executives

Job for life if you want it !
Transit Operator (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC3 juillet 2018
Very supportive culture from the admins, training, managers and supervisors. Most worked their way up so can relate. It’s a multi Union organization with great work rules, benefits, wages and top shelf government pension. Once training is completed (9weeks) you are sent out on your own “to figure it out”. They give you the tools, it’s up to you to use them. Very autonomous work environment. Kinda lonely at times. Always moving. You will drive 50 mins out of each hour. Lots of ability to work overtime, give away shifts, banked ot and stats.
Points positifs
Job flexibility
Points négatifs
Starting wage and 5 yr to top wage

Not the worst, but not a good choice
Admin Position (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC14 avril 2018
Typical government organization that lacks proper management. High turnover in a lot of places usually losing the good staff. The people that have been around for a long time have learned to not make waves, so they exacerbate the issue. A lot of promotions are based on popularity rather than qualifications. This leads to decisions based on keeping their supervisors happy rather than what is best for the company or the taxpayers. This also leads to decisions changing quite a few times. The pay is better than Ministry positions, but lower than the private side for most positions. No bonuses. Basically no overtime for exempt employees.
Points positifs
Flexible working hours. Decent gym available.
Points négatifs
Low salary. Poor management.

Not rewarding
Project Engineer (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC28 décembre 2017
Transit is a great part of every community, and I firmly believe in adding more public transit. However, there is a huge disconnect between what every staff employee does day-to-day and what is actually happening on the ground. It is hard to feel any satisfaction when most jobs are just pushing bureaucratic nonsense.
Points positifs
Great fitness facility, good benefits
Points négatifs
Advancement internally isn't close to as good as they say.

Excellent for various available shift times/exciting job/excellent benefits/room to advance within company
Bus Operator (Ancien employé) –  Vancouver, BC28 octobre 2017
Driving for BC Transit was an excellent career. I don't think its a job for everyone as you are the front doors to the public, good or bad.
I enjoyed the interaction with people and it taught me how to deal with personalities of every walk of life. Knowing the streets was an asset as I was able to send people off to their destinations the quickest way possible.
Working for BC Transit offered a variety in working shift hours. From early morning straights, split shifts and night shift, there were many options to choose from.
My "office" atmosphere changed every moment and quite different from that 9 to 5 stuck in one place feeling. Being a responsible driver is like being the captain of your ship. There is no supervision for the most part. No one to look over your shoulder as you drive the city limits loading and unloading your passengers to and from their destinations. I found mostly that by caring for your passengers, it comes back to you through their appreciation and other small various ways. The hardest part of the job was to deal with traffic and problematic people who get onto your bus. Diffusing situations is the best way to deal any problem and something that is learned through experience. Impatient car drivers on the road is part of the job but the six week accident preventative training program does an excellent job to ensure the drivers know how to prevent accidents. The road supervisors are there to ensure the buses running smoothly and on time and to assist any driver who may need their help. As long as a driver maintains the safety regulations
plus... and keeping the bus on time within reason, there is no issue with management. I was honoured to learning the trolley system.
Driving a trolley bus requires attention to the wires above and roadway ahead. I enjoyed it and not many people have the opportunity to learn it.

They don't walk the talk
Transit Driver (Ancien employé) –  Victoria, BC3 juillet 2017
You are a work slave to the company. Low to no support and the money is not worth the price on your body or health.
High turn over in employees, and staff all live in the early 1900's as still working in the industrial ages with shift work. Seats in the buses are not as good a quality as the seats in the offices, and not kept in prestine condition so it will effect your back, legs and health.
Over all, unless you kept your head in the sand and do nothing to improve the quality of the work environment, you will do fine.
Points positifs
Training, uniform, union
Points négatifs
longs hours, less than 9 hours between shifts, management, lots of values and mission statement but only for looks.
