Lots of variety in jobs and work on shutdowns. Can be dirty and hot but they compensate you for such work. Lots of overtime and some double time. Various departments to see and possibly switch too.
lot of over time and some double time
hot and dirty work, frequent change of shift
Former Shift Maintenance IRNM , Many cold nights working outside in frigid conditions as a new Millwright alone at times working in dark and dangerous unsafe conditions. Numerous times being exposed to high levels of Carbon monoxide with safety portable monitor going off the scale! Not worth long the 12 hr shifts and being used by management as the blast furnace is covered by a skeleton crew of just an electrician and a Millwright very unsafe . Seen Top Millwrights leave because of the working conditions , stress levels and lack of training . This company is great depending on the area you get assigned to . Primary area you work mostly outside hot , cold dirty environment being exposed to Carbon monoxide coal dust or Cancer causing Benzine ! Stay away from the Coke and Iron Dept or you can take say 5 years off your life for the stress and the work environment!
A typical day would be get on the CTS bus and go to a shutdown to do preventative maintenance, easy boring hot and dirty work dished out by maintenance planners that don't have any idea how to plan jobs . A once proud Canadian company is just another steel mill in the Arcelor Chain. Could really use a union as the company has cut benifits and not up the pay in a few years to match the cost of living . Used to have one of the best pensions in Canada for manufacturing not anymore . Can't wait to retire!
Half decent pay
Long hours, hot, dirty unhealthy work environment

Work conditions very poor. Very dirty and dangerous work area, Fellow co-workers very helpful. Management do not help to make the job better. I have learned that there are better places to work and they pay better as well. Night shifts you are all alone and they are poor work conditions.
I get a pay cheque.
Poor work conditions.
Great benefits, hands on training, very competitive pay rates and the people are just great! Wide variety of equipment to gain mechanical knowledge.
Thanks A Ton Points for job recognition
Overall excellent. Health and Safety is number 1. Great people to work for and with. Holidays are a little skimpy for newer employees, but you also have bonuses and profit sharing...so call it even..
Lots of voluntary OT
I feel very fortunate to have worked at my previous employer for as long as I did. The company always seemed to care for its employees. There were always several challenges to maintain a large facility while attempting to stay within a budget of both limited manpower and limited expense.Meeting suppliers and maintenance contractors gave me the opportunity to get a window of what challenges they faced to supply us with what we required.
