Spent most of my adult life at Dofasco started right out of high school treated me like family from the get go great training in all jobs from team member to team leader.Made lots of friends that I keot in my life after retirement, benefits and profit sharing were one of the reasons i applied at dofasco in 1977 and made it possible for me to retire in 2011.
team atmosphere friends i made and keep in my life
did not always agree with management on some things but always did my job as required
Great place to work if you enjoy being belittled, and bullied by the people who are aupppsed to be training you. They preach about zero tolerance and their wonderful operating procedures but don’t care when your being treated like a second class citizen and being berated every shift.
I worked on a line and had to inspect parts as they came to me. Had to do hourly checks and quality control. Had to maintain a clean and safe work area. Was sometimes many different jobs in a day, had to learn quickly how to run a job and change over machines.
very good pay
Great place to work once hired as full-time, with benefits and other incentives. Shift work is not for everyone but allows for extra days off in accordance to which shift you are on.

I worked in a small team and it was so great because I could take all the time I needed too refine my skills and develop my abilities.
Free Lunches, Boss was fun and a very patient teacher.
- A typical day at Dofasco would be driving the crane and putting coils of steel into the coil fields of loading them onto the line for processing.- I learned how to driving heavy machinery, such as cranes and what it was like to work in a large industrial facility.- My co-workers and I worked well together and often gave advice on how to perform to the best of our abilities.- The hardest part of my job was the 12 hour rotating shifts.- The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to operate the machinery and to learn about the steel making process.
experience, excellent atmosphere to work in.
long hours, rotating shifts with small turn around time.
8 hour days-Shiftwork. Learned to run Forklifts and a crane. Usually worked with very little supervision to complete my tasks. Made many friendships with co-workers and Management.
not alot of heavy lifting
sometimes boring when machines ran well, but very productive then.
I really enjoyed my time at Arcelormittal Dofasco, they taught me alot of valuable skills, I feel very confident that I can be a positive assett to the steel industry.I looked forward to starting every shift, even when I knew there was going to be a few hard obstacles to deal with, such as a large order of steel coils that had to be prepared, or a difficult shut down with pumps to clean or operate, or samples of steel to test.I enjoyed working with many different people in all levels of management. They have taught me to always do the best job that I can in a safe manner. They were always willing to help with any job that was needed.
fellow workers were always willing to help.
my work terms were only temporary.
