The team I worked with has worst manager. My manager is somewhat racist and moody. Also, team talks a lot about team work during meetings but in real life they all work in Silos. Hated my work at AHS like anything. No Scope to enhance your career path. No one talks about career goals. Director and Manager talks everything like buddies and they underestimate other employees capabilities

Some departments in HR are blantant with nepotism, hiring friends at top of pay scales, giving raises despite a salary freeze, etc. It's great if you're the person who is besties with the leader. Star talent leaves the organization because of no opportunity to grow. It's great if you are in a unionized position. Better pay and someone to actually fight for you when management tries shady things.

I have worked for AHS in a non-union position for over 8 yrs and in that time have had no increase due to government and senior leadership cost cutting, while unionized positions and senior leadership have year over year seen between 1-3% increases. New staff is also hired at higher salaries (current market rates) while those who have been dedicated employees have gotten no recognition or cost of living increases. A lot of non-union employees work second jobs just to make ends meet. Workloads tend to increase above what staff are able to reasonably manage due to the cost cutting.

Awful experience with new manager trying to suck up to VP's. No respect for employees. Everything was about sucking up to management. No common sense or fiscal responsibility.

There are two types of positions: In-Scope and Out of Scope. In-Scope positions are unionized. If you enjoy working in a unionized environment, then AHS is a great place to work. For Out-of-Scope positions, you are dealing directly with the manager. AHS is very bureaucratic and things are slow to change, but there is opportunity to improve processes and directly affect patient care.

Been with Alberta Health Services for almost 4 years. Been a rollercoaster with staff and managers over the years. Spent much time working the workload of multiple staff which is NOT manageable or realistic for one person but you have no choice. Instead of getting a pat on the back you get drilled at times of not being that perfect employee. Staff are miserable and culture is like nothing seen before. No pay increases, no meaningful support from managers and no advancement opportunties. Very limited overall and doesn't seem to be getting better. Being a professional staff and seeing the numbers of staff being affected on a daily basis, there is much better out there. Im currently in the process of leaving myself and would never recommend this employer unless there are major improvements for the staff that work hard and dedicate themselves each and every day.
