AHS is a corporation just like the other corporations. They protect the higher ups and dump on the front line workers. Its a love/hate relationship but most of us didn't get into healthcare for the corporate side, we got into healthcare to help people. If you're a lazy worker - the union will protect you. If you're a hard worker - you will get overburdened with workload, they won't ask you about it, they'll just add to your workload and expect you to do it all.

Working as a screener helped me realize I wanted to go to school to become a medical assistant and help patients coming into the hospital, great work environment and amazing staff

No support from management, do as we say not as we do attitude. Do not feel valued or ever get rewarded for a job well done. Have to pay for parking to work there, union dues are high and the union is completely useless each and every time I have used them. Lots of staff that do not pull their weight and expect others to pick u their slack, and staff are never disciplined and continue to rob the comply of money.

Overall experience was great! All staff and colleagues are always fun to work with. The only downside was I was in a temporary contract. It was such a great opportunity and experience at the same time.

Chaotic but great coworkers

Methods keep changing and you don't know of any changes until the last minute. But the coworkers and work environment were fantastic. They also provided training.

Good training, easy enough. Basic cumputer skills. The only bad things as a caasual employee is that you barely get any hours when they are not busy. Otherwise, great flexibility at cancelling shifts in advance

The management at this job is absentee and disconnected from the day-to-day operations of the company. They are not present on the floor, and they have little understanding of the jobs and responsibilities of their employees. This makes it difficult for employees to feel supported or valued in their roles, especially because of the lack of access to guidance or resources when needed. Additionally, this type of management can create an environment in which employees feel unsupported, and concerns and feedback is not taken into account, which leads to a lack of motivation and a high turnover rate.

Very toxic. I worked in multiple locations/sites and always stressful and toxic. Alot of backstabbing and being issues under the rug.Would not suggest working for AHS.

Workplace has good atmosphere, depending on the work you do there will be varying requirements. If you work as casual staff, expect to be moved around to different locations often.

Good company to work for salary and stability wise

You are paid well to work with Alberta Health Services, the stability is nice also you can usually count on finding another position within your scope across Alberta. Work can be stressful, and with COVID you are left feeling over worked with the lack of employees. Overall a good place to work.
