In general, a well organized workplace with numerous opportunities in a variety of nursing fields, lots of lateral mobility to try different areas of nursing and plenty of flexibility for casual, part time, temporary, or full time work. A generally collaborative and team-based environment.
Poor management, hypocrisy and bullying. No chances of advancement even if you more qualified, unless you’re “in good standing” with the manager who is not qualified herself. LPNs are preferred because of lower pay rate, although not competent. If you know the manager, you’ll have perks; if you’ll seek clarification and stand up for yourself, the manager will find a way to make you leave.
I thoroughly enjoyed my experiences working in the OT department. There were many opportunities for learning, which was often encouraged by management. Management had a very collaborative and team-focused view instead of a Therapist and assistant view. Everyone had worth and valid ideas. Turn over is fairly high, however.
