Poor Management
Passenger Service Agent (Ancien employé) –  Toronto, ON28 juin 2019
Managers and Supervisors are only there for their money. Dont expect support from management or your co-workers. No or few promotions available if you are good at your job.

Fun place to be and make friends
Ramp Agent (Ancien employé) –  Toronto Pearson International Airport, ON24 juin 2019
The environment is quite enjoyable. People are very helpful and friendly.

The work itself is quite enjoyable. The weather conditions may effect you but it always gets better according to the people you work with

Long days, no one cares
Ramp Agent (Ancien employé) –  Regina, SK20 mai 2019
Worked there for a year and no one seemed to take control of any issue that arises. Supervisors are experienced but co-workers are unreliable, making the reliable workers have to stay longer.

did not work there enough.
Ramp Agent (Ancien employé) –  Richmond, BC8 mai 2019
no opinion as I did not work there enough and a short period of time. From the time I was there I found it busy and time flies when you are busy with flights back to back.

Simple Hard Work. Good Pay.
Crew Chief (Ancien employé) –  Richmond, BC14 janvier 2019
This is hard labour. The work is very simple, but very intense and very physically demanding. As you move around the airport, you'll notice that the other ramp crews from other companies have about 5-7 even more people. You will probably be working in a crew of 3 at ATS. 1 crew chief and 2 ramp agents. It is almost always understaffed at ATS, this will mean very little and few breaks for you. The pay is pretty good considering the simplicity of the job, but I cannot stress enough how physically demanding it is. This is a good job to make money in the short term.

Management aren't bad. They may seem terrible because of how short and few your breaks are. Don't hold it against them. Some of the supervisors are great guys. They really get stuck in to help you out when you need it. I felt sorry for them at times. They probably got no breaks at all.

There many opportunities to get promoted from a ramp agent to a crew chief. Once you have an understanding of how procedures work, and how bags are organized, and how to prioritize tasks, you will start to understand how crew chiefs do it. Just pay attention to your crew chief. There will be times where you think crew chiefs have it easier. THEY DON'T. I've been there. It's more work.

Hardest parts:
You're dead tired at the end of the day.
You work outside rain or shine. Freezing cold or burning hot.
No/short/few breaks.

Best parts:
You can make good friends here.
Good pay for a very simple job.
Can always have work. Overtime is usually offered.
Points positifs
Flight benefits. Good Pay. Simple work.
Points négatifs
Heavy work. Few breaks. Exhausting.

Dont, just dont
Ramp Lead (Ancien employé) –  Richmond, BC15 septembre 2018
They dont care about you. Just dont work here. Flights to man power ratio are outrageous! If you die on the job, (pretty much possible in this company) they’ll pay you $25k which is absurd! And if you die, they can easily replace you within a few days. And when they increased our salary from $18 - $20 per hr, i thought it’s pretty good because youre going to get more money every year. Wroooooong! You get an increase of 50 cents after 5 years! Wooooow

Fun but stressful to deal with management
Ramp Agent (Employé actuel) –  Toronto, ON14 septembre 2018
Its fun working on the ramp loading and offloading bags but management is slow to help you when you need them most. HR doesn't respond to emails most of the time and managers throw blame onto you whenever something goes wrong.

Expect to get suffer everyday.
Ramp Agent/Baggage Handler (Ancien employé) –  Vancouver, BC5 juillet 2018
flight after flight after flight. some days you wont even get a lunch break. this job is hardest job i have ever done in my life. they don't know how to run a ground handling company. no man power available. they always call you on your days off to come in for some extra overtime. expect no life when working this job.

a typical shift when first starting out..
3pm to midnight
1 hour unpaid lunch break.

get home by 1 am then by the time you sleep its 2 am. you wake up next day at noon because your so sore you cant even move. and repeat.

if you die on the ramp they will pay your family 25k to say sorry for your loss even if its because of negligence of employer or other employee

Benefits are good but...
Crew Chief (Ancien employé) –  Richmond, BC1 juin 2018
The amount of work that you do on your schedule is ridiculous. The pay is good only if you're willing to break your back. You have no idea what you're doing and how many flights you'll be doing that day. You'll come into work and realize there's already a flight waiting for you to park and offload it. Super understaffed and sometimes they'll force you to work overtime. ATS at YVR does the baggage handling for Westjet and planes would come down nonstop. Half of the people are injured and still make people work. The supervisors are really nice, and will come to help you whenever something isn't going right. The managers only care about getting the job done and nothing about your health. There are other companies in YVR, pay less, but definitely keep everything organized and safe.
