It was easy to get into a workflow. The culture was very inclusive. It was in a very small town, a more populated area would have been nice. There were significant issues with compensation, but in the end they were resolved.
A lot of chances to grow networking, more learning opportunities, will get hands on experience, as a casual if you take leave you will not get any payment.
hands on eperience
not good salary for casual workers but still good for experience
Typical Day would consist of getting to work at 7 am, setting up my work area and working through a back log of mite containing ethanol samples. I would screen each sample and separated mites based on species. Some days would include DNA extraction from mites followed by PCR and gels. I learned more about mites then i ever could of imagined. Most difficult part of the job was repetition, many samples had mites within, however I would get stretched of 4-5 samples with nothing in them. With each sample taking 15-20 minutes to scan, near to two hours of finding nothing can test ones resolve to continue on. My Co-worker that was generally in the same lab helped make the job quite entertaining, banter and back and forth kept things interesting. He was also very knowledgeable and was very good at answering my questions when they arose.

I learned a lot from my co-workers and supervisor sine they are very eager to help me learn the things I needed to learn. It's really quiet in the building because everyone is doing what they have to do but I love that we have free food or cheap lunches. My co-workers and supervisor are very kind, accommodating and respectable. They are always there to support me at any cost. The hardest part of the job is waking up early which is very typical to those who are not morning people. On the most part, I enjoy working in a laboratory setting.
