Avis d'employé sur Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada
Best. Job. Ever.
My work involved traversing the Okanagan Basin via government vehicle in order to collect samples, make measurements, take observations and download climate data. Work was performed largely outdoors which was beneficial as the valley truly is geographically breath taking. Other tasks involved research and data analysis using computers, and aiding in fruit harvest associated duties.

Great people, beautiful geographically, welcoming workplace
A Small pool of conflicting resources influenced inter-departmental atmospheres
I worked as a part-time student research assistant on a 4-month FSWEP contract. I worked 15 hours/week and the PI I was working under was very generous about me keeping my schedule flexible, especially when exam season rolled around. The lab environment was always collaborative and exciting, and sometimes a little stressful when managing several experiments simultaneously. On special occasions such as the Chinese New Year, the facility staff put on a special lunch celebration for all employees to enjoy and learn more about the culture. These special lunches really helped maintain the work-life balance, as sometimes staying late at work was inevitable due to the experiment for the day. Overall, my position at AAFC has been the most valuable work and research opportunity I have experienced thus far. I would highly recommend working here!
This was a co-op training position through university and was an excellent opportunity to develop lab skills. The remuneration was slightly above average and the work environment was very positive. However, it was a short-term position so I know nothing about benefits or anything related to a permanent position.
