In the 4 years I was there, we went through 6+ managers and many more employees. I recognize that it isn't an end-game job but people were quitting because they didn't believe the stress and getting yelled at by everyone was worth minimum wage. I personally quit when they started firing people for little to no reason, it just didn't sit well with me.
Management makes or breaks this job. I worked at 2 different stores. The first one was great, strong and supportive management team, efficiently run store made it fun to go to work. Second one was horrible. Management ineffectual and disorganized which made it so stressful to go to work.
Working at A&W is not bad if the management team is good. The one I worked at certainly accommodate their employees as much as they can. The only downside with working at fast food are ‘mean’ customers and other staff who does not know when to stop talking and start listening.

Store manager belittles staff constantly. Nobody is right but them. No training. Crash course. Store manager not an example. Staff is afraid to communicate because of getting constantly PUT down. DONT DO IT. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE.
The Barrie division is certainly a road downhill. The owners could not care less and the management is really making it miserable for hard working people. Hope they realize it before its too late. No Good Pay, No Benefits, No Satisfaction At least being unemployed, you would have peace of mind.
I enjoyed my time with A&W glace bay NS but as a factor came in hand there was not enough hours for me too continue my employment where I had no other choice but too seek employment else where other then that couldn't say anything bad about the company
not enough breaks
not enough hours
This job gives you the stepping stones to better employment in the future. You learn to handle cash and to interact with customers. It is a valuable tool in dealing with people who may pose a challenge in a different social setting.
I started working as a cashier in 2015 and now working as a supervisor. This place teaches me a lot about life for example how to work in a team, how to listen to others and help them where needed. Improves my Communication skills, Build up my confidence. This is a second home to me.

I am currently working on the reservation A&W at ESSO, a typical day would start with your regular coffee club first thing in the morning. I would typically get the money sorted out and ready to go to the bank, make sure food prep was started and greeted and dealt with guests at the counter. It would get busy mid morning to early afternoon with the constructions works nearby and our travellers on the highway. I would start the day at 4:45 AM with my kitchen opener for the last 8 years. I am normally in charge until the general or assistant manager comes in for their shift midday. The hardest part of the job is when we have sales and it attracting a lot of attention. Would try to get the guest in and out quickly as possible in a friendly matter so I could assist the next guest either at counter or at the driver thru speaker or window. I would sometimes have to do both areas at once while assisting my kitchen crew with food assembly. The most enjoyable part of the job is working with my "Aces" and achieving our goals for service times for the morning and lunch rushes.
Quick pace during Spring to Autumn, friendly coworkers
Very slow during winter, would lose a lot of hours due to lack of guests.
I have learned a lot about managing a company from this place. I don’t feel the employees are treated right. Upper management can be rude and degrading to staff.
Hardest part of the job was going from night shift to days. Some customers can be very difficult to deal with. Other than that the work was usually easy to manage and get done on time often.
