Worked there for about a year. They have meetings every 6 months to try and work through things as a team but it feels pointless. Everything said at the meeting is forgotten after 5 minutes after the meeting is done. Things like service time felt like it was never done right, and talking to management was nothing but excuses and “I’ll get to it”’s. Started in the front but still haven’t been fully cross-trained despite people starting the job well after me, and already practically fully trained. Not their fault but just frustrating.
In the 4 years I was there, we went through 6+ managers and many more employees. I recognize that it isn't an end-game job but people were quitting because they didn't believe the stress and getting yelled at by everyone was worth minimum wage. I personally quit when they started firing people for little to no reason, it just didn't sit well with me.
A&W was the worse job I ever worked at. Constantly working with broken equipment, no hot water and as little staff as possible even on the busiest days. As a nightshift supervisor, I worked for the company for almost a decade. In my time of being there I was given a wage review only 3 times. Any time I asked for a wage review I was told "we don't have the budget for any raises at this time." Meanwhile the owner would come in and show us pictures and videos of a $17000 aquarium that he was having installed in his basement.
Broken equipment, no wage reviews, no hot water, never scheduled enough staff.
Typical day involves cooking food and cleaning appliances and counters when you are not making food. Gained many leadership qualities while working as a supervisor. Learned a lot about availability and managing free time with work time. Learned how to use many appliances such as a clam-shell grill and a fryer. Gained cash handling knowledge there. The workplace culture was very enjoyable, sometimes employees would slack off and refuse to work. Training was not handled very well, often there were untrained employees being required to do things they have not learned yet. The hardest part of the job was successfully achieving goals because we were not given the tools to succeed. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with employees and learning how to cook.

Managment doesn't care about employees. All inappropriate and other harassment issues are ignored, things are not dealt with accordingly. Your job isn't appreciated. Excellence isn't celebrated. You will either be bullied or inappropriately harassed by the franchisees.
It is a very fun job with fun people, but majority of the staff can be very young and the turnover rate can be high at times. Get used to constantly working with new people, and the training loop seems to be never ending. When the staff is strong it is overall a good company
When I was working with A&W I found I was constantly being rushed beyond anyone's capability of working. Our manager was very stern on getting the lowest wait time in the province within the company. When there wasn't a bunch of customers it was pretty relaxed, I just stocked shelves with new material (like straws and napkins) I answered the phone time to time when I wasn't completing someones order. I constantly had to inform our back kitchen of our current wait times, I believe this was our managers way of saying to hurry up or were good. I enjoyed my employment with A&W for the most part but it didn't help the manager was my cousin in law.

In the beginning it seemed like a great place to work. Most of the staff was friendly enough, and the instruction seemed pretty thorough. As time went by however, I realized that there were more and more things that were expected of me that I had no training on how to do it. The manager also plays favourites and it is very easy to tell. Most of them knew her outside of work, so I definitely expected them to have a stronger relationship. However, she would go from talking to one of her friends and when turning to face me, her welcoming smile would instantly turn into a "bad day" scowl. I can recall her smiling at me a grand total of 3 times in the nearly 2 months I worked there. It made working with her very intimidating and stressful. I usually pride myself for my hard work ethic, but as I worked with this manager more and more, I became less and less confident in my work. Because of this, my work ethic also suffered and I probably didn't work to the best of my abilities, which I wish I could have done. I felt isolated in that environment. During the last few weeks, some of my co-workers seemed to join the manager in her spite for me. They would be carrying on a conversation loud enough for the entire kitchen to hear, but when I would add a comment into the conversation I would get a dirty look and they would go on conversing as if I hadn't said anything. I also found that just about every employee there had a big mouth and would all talk about each other behind their backs. It made me so anxious wondering what bad things they were saying about me when I left, - plus...
Socially negative, unfriendly
